LAYER SPLITTING

The object is split when the layers cool down at a different rate.

A 3D object is created by printing layer upon layer. All layers must therefore stick well to each other. If not, the object can split. There are several possible causes for this problem (and fortunately also solutions):

1. LAYER HEIGHT IS TOO HIGH
The nozzle size of Tractus3D printers vary in diameter between 0.3 and 1.2 mm. The filament is pressed through the opening to produce a very thin wire in order to print highly detailed objects. However, small sized nozzles do limit the layer heights that can be used. When you print one layer of filament on top of the other, the two layers have to adhere well to each other.

If you notice that the layers do not stick together, first check whether the height of the layer is set correctly in relation to the size of the nozzle. Try lowering the layer height to see if it helps. You can do this by clicking on "Edit process settings" and selecting the Layers tab.

Your minimal layer height for Tractus3D printers is 0,05mm, your maximum layer height is limited by your nozzle size. A general rule of thumb is to use a maximum of 80% of the nozzle size.

2. TEMPERATURE IS TOO LOW
If you discover that the layers do not adhere to each other and you have checked that the layer height is not too high, then the filament may need to be printed at a higher temperature to create a stronger adhesion. For example, ABS usually needs to be printed around 240 - 260°C whilst the best printer temperature for PLA is around 180 - 220°C. Try increasing the printing temperature in 5°C increments, until you get a good layer adhesion. You can do this by clicking on "Edit process settings" and selecting the Temperature tab. Simply double-click on the temperature setpoint you want to change.
